over the hill

Guess what yesterday was?

The Wowie’s 4th birthday. Do you know how old that is in blog years? Like 50. Or maybe even 100.

In honor of this momentous occasion, I shall share 100 Wowie facts that you should know by now.

Wait. A hundred is sort of ambitious. I’ll do fifty.

But fifty things you don’t want or need to know? That seems a little self indulgent.

Okay, so four. Here we go…

#1 When I was little, I ate a Christmas tree lightbulb. I like to think that’s why I’m so bright.

#2 Yaya (my sister) had her driver’s license while I was still in elementary. One day, she wouldn’t pull over her Pontiac 6000 so I could go potty. In turn, I peed in the floorboard of her backseat. Don’t mess with me or my need to pee.

#3 My middle name is Trichell. I’ve always thought it sounded like a model’s name. You know, like Toyota Trichell.

#4 My great grandmother lived to be 106 years old. Given my family history, The Wowie should be around for another 70 years. Get. Excited.

Seventy is 875 in blog years. This calls for a celebration AND a birthday giveaway.

Leave a comment (like a little known fact about yourself or something you’d like to see on The Wowie) for a chance to win this neon tassel necklace and one of my favorite glitter “sippy cups.” A winner will be randomly selected next week.

Love and thanks for reading my ramblings. Y’all are the best.

  1. I would love to see more recipes. You always have such great recommendations. Thanks!

  2. Fun fact about me… I named my little sister. I was 3 when she was born and my mom had another name picked out but I told her (on video) that she could call my little sister whatever she wanted but I was calling her Kellyn!!

  3. fact about me: I haven’t cut my hair in over a year. Not even a trim.
Does that make me a sister wife? On your blog: day in the life would be awesome.
    πŸ™‚ happy birthday The Wowie!

  4. When I was little I decided to use two Coke bottles as percussion instruments. You can probably puzzle out the next thing that happened. Oh yeah, glass in my eye. Then one time, I bit down on a thermometer. Umm hmm, shattered in my mouth, glass, mercury and all. I must have had a real fascination with broken glass.

Anyway, Happy Bloggy Birthday! I LOVE your posts, especially with lots of photos. You brighten my day with tales about your sweet family. And your humor! I can always plan on coffee coming out my nose when I read your blog. My request is more posts!

  5. When I was a child I accidentally ingested carpet cleaner. I think that is why I hate cleaning now. HA!

  6. Happy Birthday to The Wowie!
Fun fact: I was JUST looking at tassel necklaces on shopmelvin.com. Maybe it’s fate!
More of: the same:) recipes, family, style, love it all!

  7. Love your blog! I’d love to see more of the what you’ve been eyeing/buying lately. Always such great stuff.

  8. Gosh, I just love your blog. For real. You just keep on keepin’ on with your Wowie self. My life was pretty much completed with the Hummingbird Smoozie, so anything else is just icing on the cake.

Fun fact about me? I eat mayonnaise on my corn dogs.

  9. *fun fact about me……just found out i’m preggo with #1 … such fun [barfing] mornings πŸ˜‰

happy birthday to such a marvelous, hilarious blog!! oh how i love reading…i love everything you post!

  10. Your sister and mine would get along fine. One night as kids, we both woke up to use the bathroom. She got there first and camped out on the toilet until I wet my pants.

Happy Birthday to the ol’ blog!

  11. Perhaps not the most “fun” per se, but a fact nonetheless. In the first grade I had the awesome white skinny jeans…yes, I was ahead of the fashion times. Anyway awesome white jeans that I totally strutted my six year old self around in, experienced unfortunate demise. Long story short it was a hot spring afternoon when I learned the consequences of being lactose intolerant, scarfing two ice cream cups and then partying on the monkey bars in the broiling Alabama sun. Needless to say my afternoon ended with me calling my mama crying to come pick my ruined jeans up from school early. The funniest part, now, some twenty years later is that she wrapped me in a beach towel and made me lay face down in the back seat of the car as to not further contaminate anything else with shitty jeans.

It took me many years…well into my twenties to be able to look at white jeans let alone wear them again. Funny fact, my now husband knows this story and every time I pull out a pair of white jeans he snickers and reminds me to avoid all milk products while wearing them. Such a sweet man I have…ha!

Hope you enjoyed my not so fun fact. Love your blog!!!

    • OMG, this comment took me back to the 7th grade when I too discovered that I was lactose intolerant. I got a brand new pair of white button-fly Levi’s and had an ice cream in school. I went to a Junior High School miles away from my home and had to take two public buses to get home. Well, my stomach started hurting on the first bus. It was a difficult trip home, but I made it–only to rush to the bathroom and not be able to open all of those buttons in time…I haven’t bought white jeans since, and I’m 42.

  12. Love your blog and happy birthday to it! I’d love to see a day in the life post and a post about how you discipline the boys. I’m also a boy mom to two boys so any advice would be helpful:)

  13. Love your blog!! And I am 10 years older than my sister…who also made it a habit of doing things in my car when she wouldn’t get her way. Like the time she threw my cheerleading pom-poms out the window when I wouldn’t drive her through “Chicky-Fila” (Chick-Fil-A). Thankfully we live in a small town where I could pull over and immediately pick my pom-poms up off the side of the road. I had to later explain to my coach why there was dirt and gravel coming out when I was cheering. Seriously!

  14. Happy Birthday Wowie… I love your blog and all the entertainment that you provide us with along the way. Keep it up! πŸ™‚

  15. Happy Blogiversary! For reals, you’re one of my absolute favorite reads! I wanna see more style finds and posts because you always look great! And of course, more of your tiny blonde munchkins πŸ™‚ fun fact…I’ve been married 3 weeks and I JUST moved in with my husband 3 days ago!

  16. Fun/sad fact: I haven’t gone on any sort of vacation in over 12 years :O ( boo!!!

  17. You crack me up! I’d like to see more recipes and decorating tips!! Happy Wowie birthday!

  18. Happy Blog B-day!!!
Fun fact: I have you to thank for my gold Sperrys. Yes ma’am…purchased those suckers after seeing them on the Wowie. And for what it’s worth, I think I need the gold sparkly cup to go with my Sperrys. πŸ˜‰ Keep the blog world rockin’ Wowie.

  19. Despite my clear LOVE {ahem…obsession} with the Delta, when I graduated and went to college, I vowed I would never go back. The whole “never say never” bit? Yeah…it’s true. I can’t wait to see that your book is in the works, but that’s nothing new!

  20. Well Wowie, the mommy side of me would like to see a day in the summer life post with your two boys and I’d also love to see decorating posts (I’m really nosey I guess :). To compensate, my little known fact is I don’t eat the ends of bananas- my sixth grade science teacher said that’s where amebas grow like crazy. Thanks for always putting a smile on my face!

  21. Fun fact about me: when I was in 4th grade I won a beautiful foot contest. It was at an after school program so nothing “official” but I did get free movie tickets out of it!

I’d love to see more style, hair and makeup on your blog – you always look fabulous.

  22. Little known fact about me….when I was a baby, I suffered from tummy troubles. My mom would feed me, and I would projectile vomit across the room. It got so bad that she would have to place sheets on the floor for easier clean-up. (TMI? I think so. But there you have it.) And that is Reason #23948 why I’m scared to death of having a child.

And, oh, by the way….PICK ME!!! PICK ME!!!!!

  23. Happy Birthday!!! One silly thing about me…I LOVE to read and purchase cook books, but I do not cook:) good thing I married someone that actually enjoys cooking or I would starve:) Also I enjoy reading blogs, but never comment unless a giveaway is involved:)

  24. Love your blog. More style/life posts. You are gorgeous!
Fun fact: I have two daughters but your two cute boys make me want to keep going for a son!

  25. Fun fact…I have a random hole at the top of my ear I was born with that my high school students think is a super cool piercing. The only other person I have heard of having this (who doesn’t share my genetics) is Rosie O’Donnell. You’d have to be a real bada$$ to get a piercing there!!!

Love your blog! I want to hear more about your work/mom balance.

  26. I would love to see “a day in the life” and more recipes! I finally made Giada’s turkey meatloaf this week because of inspiration from you! I am a stay at home mom of 2 and am currently working on my Masters to re-enter the workforce. “A day in the life” from you will certainly give me some tips for the future as a wife and working mom of 2! Given my family history, your blog will be celebrating a lot longer than I will πŸ˜‰ so I am thrilled to know The Wowie will always be around, ha!

  27. I always love your posts–as a fellow working mom I love to see style and day in the life posts–as well as recipes.

Random fact, I’m missing 7 of my adult teeth–it’s a genetic thing—and, I fell and broke my two front teeth when I was ten. Needless to say I’ve spent so much time in the dentist chair, he’s been able to buy a new fishing boat and I have a mouthful of beautiful teeth–you’d never know half of them were fake!

    Happy Anniversary!

  28. Go Shorty.. it’s ya birthday (50 Cent recently grumbled that song would never die.. because it’s always someone’s birthday)..

Would love a “Day in the Life” post. Oh! And clothes! Because my credit card is feeling neglected.

Fun (?) fact: you know how doctors tell you your second child will come faster than your first? My first was born less than a half hour after arriving in Labor & Delivery. My second (now 11 months) was born in the hospital lobby. They call it a “Code Stork.” We almost named her after the nurse who ran around the corner and caught her. My mother arrived in time to see the poor night janitor mopping rather timidly around the area. I brought him some fancy chocolates. As if that were enough.

PS- can you rig it so “white jeans” Dana wins?

  29. Fun fact about me: I have this very blonde, very small hair that grows off the tip of my nose. I can only see in certain lighting (before it gets plucked obviously) but it totally freaks me out.

I can’t believe that I just shared that lovely fact with the internet world, but I’ll do almost anything to win some sparkle.

Other fact: I love your blog, instagram, etc. Happy blog birthday!

  30. Happy blog-aversary!
Fun fact about me , my first name is Galadriel and my dad got it from The Lord of the rings book. Try spelling that in kindergarten! Most people call me Glade for short..

I absolute love your blog. It’s my favorite of all I read. I’d love to see more details about what you wear/ buy..
    More home decor
    More about your cute kiddos
    Just more πŸ™‚ xo

  31. I have a 5 year old and 7 week old little boy – that’s about as fun as I get! The 5 year old keeps me on my toes & would probably get along great with yours. Maybe baby brother will be a little more laid back :). And love your blog! Agree with others that “a day in the life” would be fun!

  32. I can blow air out of my eyes. I have not done this in many years, but I don’t think the talent needs to be practiced to remain a talent. πŸ™‚

  33. Fun Fact: I’m from the town of the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle. Happy B(log)irthday! Your blog always has me laughin’

  34. Fun fact: I’m about to go on vacation to Nashville and the smokies! I would like to see more recipes on your blog.

  35. Fun fact about myself: I’m preganant and due in less than a month( but look around 68 wks preg) I would love to see either a day in the life post or some more recipes! Happy birthday and here’s to many more!!

  36. Fun fact (nerd alert): I’m an addict….of books. Really though. It’s a problem. Up all night, dark circles under your eyes, need an IV of coffee the next day kind of problem. And although you are unaware, you have been enabling my addiction…with your book club insta photos. *sigh* There, I said it. (Or typed it. Whatever.)

So, I would hate (love) to see more book club posts. And maybe a post on an eye concealer that works miracles.

    #thesearemyconfessions
    #happyblogiversary

  37. Happy Birthday, Wowie! You are one of my absolute favorite reads! The thought of this blog being around another 70 years has completely made my day!!!;)

  38. Woot woot! So glad you are still here 4 years later. Little known fact, I might be the last remaining blogger to NOT own a tassel necklace (yet?!?!).

    Happy Friday chica! xo

  39. Happy Anniversary! Don’t change a thing on the blog!!!
I love everything about it. Your humor and personality
are priceless. Your ig’s have me cracking up daily.
Random fact about me: I caught the brass ring at
the Carousel on Martha’s Vineyard when I was 5.
Supposedly only happens once every few years?!?
And, just recently I boarded a US domestic flight
as a different person and no one (including me) knew
it until I was seated! How does that happen in today’s
    world… Crazy
Ok, those are both boring, clearly I need more
    Wowie in my life.
    Xoxo
    Nancy

  40. Happy Birthday to the wowie blog!

Love your blog! Don’t change a thing. Always in stitches when reading!

  41. I LOVE your blog! you’re seriously hilarious and your stories about your kids have made me actually entertain the idea of having some in the future. this is BIG considering previously I’ve sworn the only way I would have children is when amazon.com offers some I can acquire sans hours of pain and labor and with two day free shipping.

would love more or the same! you’re fab! happy blog birthday!

(I accidentally posted this comment on the other post–brain fail. it’s friday. forgive me!)

  42. When I was born I had a “third ear” and had to have it removed before I turned 6 months. It was really just a flap if skin but I have a hard time hearing the older I get and I always tell my mom it was her fault for removing my extra ear!!

  43. Happy Birthday πŸ™‚

Would love to see more on where you find your cute little guys’ wardrobe!

  44. Can’t wait to read 875 more years of your blog! Congratulations on the 4 years. I love reading your blog, I’m a little obsessed!!

  45. Fun Fact: I fell off a high dive head first (towards the concrete side of the pool) when I was 8 years old and lived to tell of it! I figure my tendency to jump from rather precarious situations always works out in the end! πŸ™‚

I love your blog because we have similar style/likes and reading here seems like a friend is sharing her fav recipe/outfit/funny story. It is a fun little stop instead of reading the news or some other anxiety producing website! Hope this Wowie blog is around for a long, long time!!

  46. I am obsessed with your dressing of your cute boys! My son is almost 8 and only wants to wear basketball shorts and UA tshirts. Boring!!! I need some tips so no arguing in mornings of adorable mom idea clothes!!!Love your cute style πŸ™‚

  47. Happy Happy Birthday!

I love your blog and insta! I love your sense of humor and wish it would rub off on me!

    Cheers!

  48. When I was 4 I loved all things Barbie. I had Barbie’s play kitchen (the mini one that only she could cook in) so that meant I had mini Barbie food. I was sitting in my living room & began snorting up into my nose, Barbie biscuits. I snorted it up and snorted it back out…haha. Well, one got lodged too far up in my nasal cavity and wouldn’t come out. I ended up at the ER, & the Dr. had to remove it. To this day, my mom tells this story atleast once a week.

  49. I am the baby by 9 and 10 years—my brother and sister are 16 months apart, and I was an “accident”! They picked on me so much growing up (meaning made me scream & cry) that I was hoarse until I was in middle school.

Keep doing what your doing! I love your blog and all the good laughs!! πŸ˜‰

  50. Happy Happy Birthday To You!!! Hope it was the best one yet!!!;)
My parents gave me. “Pasture” car for my 14th birthday! I grew up on 50 acres and had a brown hatchback chevett with leather interior to practice driving in the pastures behind out house! My friends went nuts and we had a blast! Now, that I have kiddos I think my parents were nuts! W and Ella Rose will NOT have a pasture car! My sister had one too!!;)

  51. Oh, and I need a fashion blog because you always look effortlessly chic!!! And I literally want to road your closet!

  52. Adore your blog! Would love to see a “day in the life” post!!

  53. I just think you have the most precious family…evah!! Love love seeing your updates and pics of the family, your style, recipes and advice. Happy Blogging Birthday to you!!

  54. Woohoo! Happy Blog Birthday!

I would love to see more of you- clothes and makeup recs, more of your beautiful home, a day in the life, etc… I’m nosey:)

  55. Along the lines of your “eating a Christmas light”…when I was in kindergarten, I thought I would impress my other “cot-mates” in our housekeeping section of our kindergarten classroom. See, my grandfather had this trick where he would show me how he could put a quarter in one ear and have it come out the other side. Little did I know he quickly moved it behind his head from one ear to the other! So, to show off to my friends during naptime, I couldn’t find a quarter, so I broke off a piece of the mini-play broom in our classroom and SHOVED it into my ear canal! We all kept waiting for it to come out the other ear and as you can imagine….it didn’t! It freaked out my friends so much they starting shouting for the teacher and she came over, freaked out herself and then took me to the office to call my mom. We rushed to the dr. office and he couldn’t see it and said that it would just probably stay in there. So it’s somewhere, still (33 years later) deep in my ear canal, probably growing barnacles!!!

  56. Happy birthday Wowie!! I love reading your blog.. Always entertaining! I would love to see a tour of your home. You have such great taste!
