give thanks(giving a chance)
The following is a public service announcement brought to you by The Wowie:
It is not December.
I repeat, it is NOT December.
So can someone please tell me why people have Christmas trees up already? Has this been happening for years but people were too embarrassed to admit it? Is it Instagram’s fault? Someone posted their floor to ceiling Christmas decorations on November 1st and then everyone else thought it was okay to come out of the Christmas closet? It sort of makes me want to deck myself in the halls.
I’ve mentioned my, ahem, distaste for fast Christmas here before. I know that people can put up their tree whenever they please. Heck, some people keep their outdoor lights up year round. I just don’t understand it.
I love Christmas, I really do. But I also love Thanksgiving and like to savor one holiday before rushing onto the next one. Why would someone want to fast forward fall? Why would anyone want to speed past Thanksgiving? People spend too much money on pumpkins to dump them the day after Halloween to make room for fake trees.
Thanksgiving is a beautiful holiday. Why do people want to dilute it with their eggnog lattes?
And you can’t beat the food. One word – PIE. Just try not to get any on your Christmas sweater.
I am thankful for those of you who agree with me. And to those of you who don’t, let’s just love each other through it.
But if you’ve already brought out the creepy elf, we just can’t be friends.
I have three words, Wowie: PREACH. IT. SISTER.
Time is going quite fast enough, thank you. I do NOT want to speed straight from Halloween to Christmas. Put those dadgum red Starbucks cups AWAY, please. Whew. I feel better. You’re not just a blogger, you’re also a therapist!
Ha! More like I need a therapist. I am glad a few of you agree. 😉
Couldn’t agree more, Wowie. And I was so pleased to see that Nordstrom is on our side. Outside of the store last night they had a sign up that mentioned you would not see holiday decor in the store because they choose to celebrate one holiday at a time. Their holiday decorations will go up after Thanksgiving (as they should). If I didn’t feel like the rush for Christmas was all about making us spend more money and faster, maybe I wouldn’t hate it as much.
Right there with ya!! Next time I’m in the US I will shop at Nordstroms (like I needed an excuse!) just because of their policy about Xmas decorations. No wonder people feel burned out before it even gets here! Here in Canada Costco had Christmas decorations before Sept. 1st and Michaels was playing Christmas music before Halloween. Makes me wanna shove the Christmas tree up the chimney along with the roast beast and log for the fire and send it back to the North Pole. Lucy was right we need to face it. We all know Christmas is a big commercial racket. It’s run by a big eastern syndicate you know. But I won’t let all this commercialism ruin my Christmas!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving and lets put Christmas on ice until Dec.1st!!
Yes, yes and amen.
I feel like such a Grinch at times but I just can’t handle the constant fast forwarding of the Christmas/Holiday season.
I love Thanksgiving and all the food, and colors, and parade and the fact that it has nothing to do with gifts and buying buying buying.
I couldn’t agree more! Christmas doesn’t need to come early people! I turned around and walked right out of Hobby Lobby in August when they had Christmas out. Won’t do it!
I’m with you FK. I will not even think about Christmas until Nov 29th!!
Amen! Don’t rush thanksgiving!!! You are to funny
We have a saying in our family: Respect the bird! Yes, we all adore Christmas but let’s celebrate Thanksgiving first!!!
I have to say I’m guilty of wanting my Christmas tree early. I think the lights make me happy. I never could have one as a kid so now with my own place, its just a crave. 🙂 However, there is no tree yet, it will be up the first week of December and I will definitely enjoy Thanksgiving. The fighting, the food, the sharing, the joy. Family time isn’t the same if we don’t bicker. Oh and that Elf is creepy. Have a great one! -Iva
A to the MEN, sister! It stresses me out seeing all the Christmas everywhere already! And not to even bring up how much I love to eat Thanksgiving food…
Happy Thanksgiving, Wowie!
