the beach is back

A couple of weeks ago, SK had to speak at a conference in Destin, FL. He asked me to go, but I said no. He said, “are you sure?” And I said, “well if you are going to keep bugging and begging, I guess I will go… ugh.” So, we loaded the kids up and headed back to the beach. This time my niece Kailey went along.

We had a late lunch at Harbor Dock’s sushi bar when we arrived. I cannot resist that place. If you are headed to Destin, please bring me a fresh catch roll and some crab poppers. I will pay you back.

Our first full day, we headed to Crystal Beach, the area where my family vacationed when I was young. I mean, younger. The water there is absolutely beautiful. See for yourself…

The conference was at the Grand Sandestin which is on the bay. We spent a lot of time on the deck watching the boats and hanging out at the pool. And watching TV and playing on the Internet. And on the phone (we will get to that later)…

Our condo was very close to Baytown Wharf. The kids had a blast…

We went to Dune Allen Beach one afternoon when SK was free. The craziest thing happened there. G took a nap. I know that doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it might be the only time that kid has ever fallen asleep outside his bed. I did have the ocean wave app kicking on the iPhone…

When he woke up (only slightly sunburned), we went to Seaside and ate at the Taco Bar. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I LOVE (in all caps) guacamole. If it ran for president, it would have my vote.

G, on the other hand, would vote for cheese dip.

A few more pics from the trip…

only kids dancing at the party... and yes, G isn't wearing shoes.

And now, a letter to ALL 13 year old girls…

Dear 13 year old girls,

I just wanted to write you all a letter to express some concerns I have. Of course, I realize that you probably won’t ever read this, because it isn’t posted on Facebook or BBM. But on the slight chance you do, here goes… I am afraid there are a lot of awesome things happening around you that you don’t even notice. You might think you notice, when you glance up from your phone for 2.5 seconds, but you really don’t. Don’t get me wrong, phones are cool, and I look at mine a lot. But, not as much as a 13 year old girl. I give you exhibits A, B and C…

When I was 13, I wore my hair in braids and was ready to rock with the New Kids on the Block. We didn’t have call waiting, much less cell phones. If my friends didn’t invite me to their spend the night parties, I did not instantly know. Things are different now. Harder. And I do not envy you at all. But, please, for the love of D.J. Tanner, put the phone down occasionally. Take a look around and enjoy this beautiful world we live in. And please don’t stress out because some mean girl posted something about you or left you out. I know it is easier said than done, but things that are really important to you now, won’t be so important when you look back. Trust me, I know.

Love and Kisses,
Wowie

ps- I am adding all of you to my prayer list.

Don’t even get me started on the two year olds…
